Wittenberg Blanks Wooster 2-0 to Split Season Series

Following a lopsided loss to The College of Wooster field hockey team earlier in the season, Wittenberg University exacted some revenge on Saturday by shutting out the Fighting Scots' shooters en route to a 2-0 win at Springfield, Ohio.

The Scots (10-4, 7-2 NCAC), who were held scoreless for the first time since a loss to DePauw University last October, led the game in shots (15-13) and penalty corners (12-10) but were unable to rattle the cage. Freshman Dana Feit stepped up to lead Wooster with three shot attempts, while Amanda Artman, Eileen Barrer and Brittany Montgomery each took two in the setback.

Wittenberg's (8-3, 6-2 NCAC) Elizabeth Dwyer put the Tigers ahead with a goal in the game's 24th minute, when she bounced a shot past the goalkeeper on a double assist from Tori Casanta and Boo Vernon. Then at the 46:48 mark, Vernon would get her own goal when she whipped a backhanded shot into the cage that gave the Tiger a 2-0 cushion.

Golakeeper Madalyn Myers tallied six saves while her counterpart, Jenny Schaafsma, recorded nine saves in the shutout.

Wooster will be back home to host Washington & Jefferson College (4-5) at Cindy Barr Field on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
