Artman's Hat Trick Powers Wooster Over Earlham 5-2

WOOSTER, Ohio – Amanda Artman scored three goals in the game's first half, leading The College of Wooster field hockey team to a 5-2 win over North Coast Athletic Conference challenger Earlham College on Saturday at John P. Papp Stadium.

Just under six minutes into the game, Artman blasted in the 70th goal of her career to put the Fighting Scots (11-5, 8-2 NCAC) in the lead. Then in the game's 13th minute, Eileen Barrer scored on an impressive backhanded shot that whipped past the goalkeeper and put Wooster ahead by two goals. Artman scored two more goals before the break, one on a Stephanie Standera assist, and another on a breakaway with six seconds remaining on the clock that put the Scots ahead 4-0.

Wooster came out shooting in the second half, and Maddie Hart gathered up a loose ball and rattled the cage at the 40:28 mark to give the Scots a five goal cushion. Earlham's Kate Birdsall and Cassie Gage each assisted on goals to each other late in the game to put the Quakers (4-7, 1-7 NCAC) on the board, but it was too little too late as Wooster closed out the 5-2 win.

For Artman, her three-goal outing marked her third hat trick this season, and she now leads the NCAC with 23 goals. Madalyn Myers had four saves in goal while picking up her 11th win of the season. Earlham's Emma Treece made nine saves, including seven in the first half, and Birdsall led the Quakers with three shot attempts.

The Scots will be back in action on Sunday when they host DePauw University (8-5) at John P. Papp Stadium at 1 p.m.
