The College of Wooster field hockey team lost their season opener to Rhodes College 4-0 Saturday afternoon at an extremely hot Farris Stadium in Danville, Ky.

Battling temperatures in the upper 90s, the Scots (0-1) never got going against Rhodes, who like Wooster, played in the NCAA Div. III Tournament last year.

Rhodes outshot Wooster 8-4 and took a 2-0 lead in the first half, but the Scots became more aggressive after the break. Clare Nelson-Johnson and Anna Divis led the team with three shots apiece, and helped Wooster gain a 7-6 shot advantage in the second half, but goalkeeper Kelly Whelan kept the Scots off the scoreboard.

All-conference 'keeper Madalyn Myers, who missed almost the entire 2010 season due to injury, made her first start in goal since 2009 and recorded six saves in the setback.

The Scots will look for better results tomorrow when they battle Centre College at 2:30 p.m.
