WOOSTER, Ohio – Washington & Jefferson College scored a goal late in each half and held The College of Wooster off the scoreboard throughout for a 2-0 decision in a non-league field hockey tilt Wednesday at an overcast John P. Papp Stadium.

In a game that was primarily played in the middle of the field, Wooster (0-2) had a slight advantage early on, recording the first two shots and penalty corners. Washington & Jefferson (2-0), though, would convert a corner opportunity late in the half to get on the scoreboard, as Erin Barno controlled the ball at the top of the circle, dribbled a few steps to the left wing, and fired a shot into the cage with 6:18 remaining in the half.

The Presidents nearly added to their lead a few minutes later, but the Scots' Madalyn Myers made a key save during a 2-on-1 breakaway, and it remained 1-0 through halftime.

In the second, Clare Nelson-Johnson came close to scoring an equalizer twice, however, Washington & Jefferson's backfield proved too tough. The Presidents added a late insurance goal when they were awarded a penalty stroke at the 4:09 mark and Elizabeth Herb drove it in.

Statistically, Wooster was outshot 12-7 and goalies, Myers and Liz Plumley, notched two saves apiece with each playing one half.

Next, the Scots begin North Coast Athletic Conference play Saturday as Ohio Wesleyan University (1-1, 0-0 NCAC) visits at 10 a.m.
