The College of Wooster field hockey team was within 1-0 of North Coast Athletic Conference champion Kenyon College at halftime of Saturday's season finale, but two goals early in the second propelled the Ladies to a more comfortable 3-0 final margin at Gambier, Ohio.

Wooster completes 2014 a single game under .500 (9-10) and in fifth-place in the NCAC standings (6-8), which means its league-record streak of 13 consecutive appearances in the NCAC Tournament has ended as the top-four finishers from the regular season make the postseason.

The Fighting Scots knew it would be a challenging task on Saturday, with Kenyon (17-2, 13-1 NCAC) motivated to win the conference championship outright for the first time, and Shannon Hart deflected a ball in off of a penalty corner just 1:16 into the action.

Throughout the rest of the first half, Wooster's midfield and defense limited the Ladies to just four shots. Goalkeeper Carrie Mount made three saves and the other attempt was blocked, as it stayed a one-goal game through halftime.

The Scots had a chance to tie early in the second half, with a Megan McGinley shot going on goal. It was saved, and shortly thereafter, Kenyon scored twice within 21 seconds to effectively seal the outcome.

Kerry O'Connor may have had Wooster's top scoring chance of the day with about 10 minutes left, but her shot was pushed away by a back.
