WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster took an early 1-0 lead and gained further momentum in the opening half when 'keeper Danielle Slichenmyer saved a penalty stroke, but Washington & Jefferson mounted a second-half comeback to prevail 2-1 Wednesday night during non-league field hockey action inside John P. Papp Stadium.

First-year Maeven Barry gave Wooster (1-5) a shot of momentum in the opening moments, taking possession of the ball from Washington & Jefferson (3-2), dribbling from left-to-right into the circle, and firing a shot past the goalie to the far post for her first collegiate goal 1:44 into the action.

Eleven minutes later, the Presidents were awarded a stroke. Slichenmyer calmly used her body to stop the point-blank attempt, and there were few high-quality scoring chances by either offense the rest of the half as the Fighting Scots maintained their 1-0 advantage.

The second stanza saw a number of offensive opportunities. Five minutes into it, Slichenmyer held strong when Washington & Jefferson's Amanda Steffey broke past the defense as she saved an initial shot as well as a rebound attempt by Steffey. Next, it was Rachel Wetzel of Wooster driving a hard shot off of a corner pass, but Morgan Brozena was there for the save.

Shortly after, the Presidents converted on one of their penalty corner attempts. A pass was played into the middle of the circle to Lauren Brown, who quickly sent the ball toward the left post, where Rachel Buyan touched it in to tie the scoreboard.

It remained 1-1 deep into regulation. Leah Prescott forced Brozena into a diving save at one point, then with about 3:30 left Washington & Jefferson converted on another corner, this time Brown deflecting Kelly Knisel's drive from the left wing into the cage.

Slichenmyer was solid throughout with nine saves.

The Scots will be in Indiana this weekend for a pair of North Coast Athletic Conference affairs at Earlham College (1-2, 0-1 NCAC) on Saturday and DePauw University (2-2, 1-0 NCAC) Sunday.
