Wooster Falls to NCAC Preseason Favorite DePauw

WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster field hockey team fell 4-0 to visiting DePauw University on Sunday afternoon at John P. Papp Stadium as the Fighting Scots ended their weekend with a split against the North Coast Athletic Conference's two Indiana programs.

In last year's meeting at Wooster (6-3, 3-2 NCAC), the two teams' offenses stole the show, particularly in the first half with a combined nine goals, and early indications from Sunday's contest pointed that way, evidenced by an early offensive flurry from DePauw (5-3, 4-1 NCAC). Wooster's defense was up to the task as the Scots defenders blocked a pair of shots before two more were turned aside by first-year Katie Shideler in the opening 2:00.

Just over 12 minutes later, sophomore Harriet Sudduth led a Wooster charge offensively with a pair of blistering shots off penalty corners. In the second half, Wooster went to Sudduth again on the penalty corner, and she nearly made it a 2-1 game with a shot underneath the pad of DePauw 'keeper Hannah Metzger that rolled just wide of the far post.

DePauw's Kate Milner put the visiting Tigers on the board in the 20th minute, directing in a feed from Paige Berliner. The duo connected again about eight minutes later as Berliner was able to draw in Wooster's defensive unit before sliding the ball towards the backside to Milner, who knocked in her fifth goal of the season.

DePauw's Rose Revolinski made it a 3-0 contest in the 44th minute on a penalty stroke, while Cathy Zesiger rounded out the scoring by knocking in a loose ball in the middle of the circle with just under 10 minutes to play.

Shideler logged a season-high 20 saves in the contest.

Next, Wooster travels to NCAC leader Kenyon College (8-1, 5-0 NCAC) for a 4:30 p.m. clash on Wednesday.
