The College of Wooster field hockey team lost to DePauw University 2-1 on Sunday.

DePauw (8-7, 3-2 NCAC) scored each in the first and second periods. They capitalized on a Wooster mistake in the 10th minute as Sarah Goff intercepted a free pass following a foul to drive down the middle of the circle to score her first goal of the year.

Midway through the second period, Kate Milner, who is second in scoring in the NCAC, received a pass and scored near the left post for her 12th goal of the season.

Wooster held DePauw scoreless the rest of the way and cut the deficit in the third period. A breakaway got the ball in the circle when sophomore Katie Agatucci found junior Caitlyn O'Connor near the right post for the score.

The Scots had opportunities in the fourth to tie the game but could not connect on any of its four shots.

The Scots are enduring a rough stretch having lost their last seven games and dropping to 3-10 overall and 0-5 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. However, there were a number of positives to take away from Sunday's game.

Wooster outshot DePauw 24-15. The 24 shots were a season-high, and it was the first time they outshot an opponent during the course of their losing streak.

First-year goalkeeper Zoë Semersky saw her first action after replacing junior Katie Shideler to begin the second half. Semersky saved both shots she saw, while Shideler had a busy first half with eight saves.

Wooster also took 11 penalty corners to DePauw's four. DePauw keeper Allie Duranceau collected 15 saves.

The Scots will look to get in the win column on Saturday when they travel to Oberlin College for another NCAC showdown.
