SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The College of Wooster field hockey team concluded its weekend road trip at Wittenberg University, where the Fighting Scots fell 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at Edwards-Maurer Field.
Wooster (4-9, 2-7 North Coast Athletic Conference) kept second-place Wittenberg (10-1, 7-1 NCAC) off the scoreboard until the second period. Right before giving up the first goal of the game, Wooster looked to score in transition, earning a breakaway chance. Wittenberg goalkeeper Caitlin Archdeacon intervened and disrupted the play enough for the Tigers to regroup defensively.
Wittenberg's Ebony Wyse scored the first two goals in the second period. The first came in transition. Wyse's second goal was set up by a cross to the middle by Devyn Groves. Wyse converted through traffic after receiving Groves' pass from the wing.
Groves was the scorer for Wittenberg in the third period. After the ball was played in to the center, Groves hesitated momentarily before getting the shot into the cage.
Wooster junior goalkeeper Cate Barkdoll was credited with two saves in the game. Archdeacon had one in the combined shutout for Wittenberg.
The game log indicated Wittenberg had a 21-3 shot advantage. Two of Wooster's shots were attempted by first-year Frankie Zehnal, while sophomore Audrey McKenna had the third one.
Next, Wooster wraps up its season on Saturday, November 2 with a noon game against Ohio Wesleyan University (13-4, 7-1 NCAC). Wooster will honor its lone senior, Ashley Reynolds, as part of Saturday's game.
