Jomara Coghlan

Jomara Coghlan (COG-lin), a four-time Empire 8 Field Hockey Coach of the Year who has served as head coach for 15 seasons at Washington & Jefferson College, is The College of Wooster's new head field hockey coach. Coghlan's tenure at Wooster started on August 8, 2022.

Wooster marked Coghlan's first stop upon pursuing a coaching career full-time. She joined the staff as an assistant in 2004 and helped the Fighting Scots post a 39-21 record with a North Coast Athletic Conference championship. Coghlan also assisted with the women's lacrosse program during that time, where Wooster went 33-11 with one NCAC title. Three Scots earned National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-America honors with Coghlan on staff, and 15 all-region citations came Wooster's way.

In between stops at Wooster, Coghlan headed Washington & Jefferson's highly successful program. In 15 seasons, Coghlan guided the Presidents to a 168-89 record, three NCAA Div. III Championships berths, and three Empire 8 Conference titles. The 2018 season saw the program win its first-ever NCAA Tournament game, finish as the NCAA Div. III leader in goals against average (0.30), save percentage (.903), and shutouts per game (0.75), and win a program-record 18 contests. Two student-athletes earned NFHCA All-America honors following Washington & Jefferson's historic 2018 season, and three student-athletes earned All-America status, 19 were voted to the all-region team, and 57 earned all-conference laurels during Coghlan's time with the Presidents. Under Coghlan's watch, Washington & Jefferson's program qualified for the NFHCA National Academic Honor Roll all 15 seasons, and she coached two conference players of the year and two conference newcomers of the year.

Coghlan's role at Washington & Jefferson expanded several times, starting with adding compliance coordinator responsibilities in 2012. She became a Title IX investigator for Washington & Jefferson in 2017 and started teaching classes within the physical education and wellness department in 2020.

In addition to collegiate coaching experience, Coghlan has worked numerous camps and was previously a USFHA Futures Program Coach. She holds a USFHA Level II coaching certification.

Coghlan was a four-year letterwinner as a goalkeeper at Div. I Ohio University. Her 223 saves as a junior still ranks third all-time in single-season program history. She received a bachelor's degree in sports sciences from Ohio in 1993 and a master's degree in exercise science and health promotion from California University of Pennsylvania in 2010.
