Fegan Selected to NABC Honors Court
Recent Wooster graduate recognized for academics
For the second consecutive year, The College of Wooster's Matt Fegan was recognized on the National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court, as the NABC announced the award winners for the 2011-12 season on Tuesday.
As a senior guard, Fegan averaged 7.3 points, 2.8 rebounds, and a team-leading 2.7 assists, while serving as the leader of a Wooster team that reached the sectional semifinals (Round of 16) of the NCAA Div. III Men's Basketball Championship and went 26-5. The 3-point specialist drained 45.2 percent of his shots from outside the arc (57-for-126), and most notably, Fegan set the Div. III record for career games played with 126, helping the Fighting Scots to 105 wins along the way (105-21).
Off the court, Fegan carried a 3.48 grade-point average while majoring in history with a minor in education. He was very active in the local OhioReads program, volunteering his time to read to elementary students, and currently, he's training for the Teach for America program in Oklahoma.
According to the NABC, "the Honors Court recognizes the talents and gifts that these men possess off the court, and the hard work they exhibit in the classroom. In order to be named to the Honors Court, an athlete must meet a high standard of academic criteria."
