Xavier Brown, a junior guard for The College of Wooster, was named a third-team All-American by D3hoops.com, the website announced prior to Saturday evening's NCAA Div. III national championship game in Salem, Va.

"Being named to the D3hoops.com All-America Team is a very prestigious honor. The committee members that make these selections are very knowledgeable of all the regions in the country," stated Wooster head coach Steve Moore. "Xavier had an excellent season as he had a very positive impact on the game at both ends of the floor."

The honor gives the Fighting Scots a pair of All-Americans in the backcourt during the 2013-14 season, as senior guard Doug Thorpe was previously announced as a first-team selection by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

Brown, thanks to improved shooting percentages of .450 from the field, .448 on 3-pointers, and .842 at the free throw line, edged Thorpe as the team's leading scorer with a 14.7 scoring average. He also contributed 3.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game, and served as Wooster's top defender on the perimeter. In that role, Brown totaled a squad-high 40 steals.

Among Brown's season highlights were a 31-point game against Baldwin Wallace University, the preseason favorite in the Ohio Athletic Conference, 16 points on 7-of-11 field goals during a victory against then-No. 5 ranked Wheaton (Ill.) College, and a strong finish that saw him average 16.3 points over the last 12 games.

Brown, who has already totaled 1,236 points, 178 assists, and 107 steals for his career, will enter his senior season hoping to lead the Scots to another North Coast Athletic Conference championship. They've won two in a row and nine of the last 10, but are only expected to return two starters.

"Xavier has had an excellent career to date, and with a productive off-season, could have his best season as a senior," Moore said.
