Scots Place Pair on NABC Honors Court

Derek Schwarz
Ari Stern

2016-17 NABC Honors Court

Derek Schwarz and Ari Stern, of The College of Wooster men’s basketball team, were both named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court, as announced by the coaches association this week.

Schwarz entered 20 games this past season for the Scots. Primarily known for his relentless hustle on every possession, Schwarz averaged 1.6 rebounds and 1.4 points per game, and saved his best scoring performance for the NCAA Tournament, where he scored five points in seven minutes during Wooster’s 77-72 loss to North Central College. Earlier in the year, Schwarz pulled down six rebounds – including four on the offensive end of the floor – in eight minutes during Wooster’s 98-63 win over Defiance College in the Al Van Wie/Wooster Rotary Classic.

Stern appeared in 18 contests on the year, and also battled an injury late in the season. The speedy, defensive-minded guard contributed 1.6 points and 1.3 rebounds per night, and he scored a season-high five points during a 95-54 win over Wabash College on January 21. Just like Schwarz, Stern also corralled six rebounds during Wooster’s November win over Defiance.

Academically, Stern sports a 3.74 grade-point average as a psychology major, while Schwarz holds a 3.24 grade-point average as a biochemistry and molecular biology major.
