NABC All-District Release

The College of Wooster's Danyon Hempy was voted to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Great Lakes All-District first-team, as announced by the coaching organization on Wednesday morning.

Hempy, who finished the year as Wooster's leading scorer at 20.6 points per game, helped lead the Fighting Scots to the program's North Coast Athletic Conference-leading 18th conference crown, a 23rd consecutive 20-win season, and a NCAA Div. III record 17th consecutive tourney appearance. His 618 points are the fifth-most in a single season in program history, and he's the second player under legendary head coach Steve Moore to finish a season averaging at least 20 points per game.

Hempy's contributions weren't limited to scoring, as the junior guard regularly drew the oppositions' top perimeter player as his primary defensive assignment. Hempy's all-around efforts resulted in 13 games with at least six rebounds and 10 outings with four or more assists. Hempy finished the season with per-game averages of 5.3 boards and 3.0 helpers.

Hempy's first-team Great Lakes All-District honor marks the 20th time in program history Wooster's had a first-teamer, and it's the first one since Xavier Brown (2013-14). In all, Moore's Wooster-coached student-athletes have now earned all-district honors from the NABC 28 times.
