Billings Part of D3hoops.com Team of the Week
Scots' point guard averaged 11.0 assists, 5.5 steals per game
The College of Wooster's Jamir Billings earned a spot on this week's D3hoops.com Team of the Week following a record-setting stretch for the Fighting Scots' men's basketball team.
Billings' stat sheet was stuffed full last week in nearly every key statistical category. The first-year averaged 16.0 points, 11.0 assists, 5.5 steals, and 5.0 rebounds per game en route to helping Wooster to a 91-77 win over Kenyon College and an 83-80 victory over archrival Wittenberg University.
In the Kenyon win, Billings tied the storied program's 49-year-old school record for assists at 12, with the milestone helper coming with 1:55 remaining in the game. Then on Saturday, Billings matched Wooster's top mark in steals at seven. In that game, the record-tying stat came at the 4:00 mark of the second half, and it was the first time a Scot had seven steals in a game since Antwyan Reynolds in 2001.
Billings added 10 assists in Saturday's win over Wittenberg, and in doing so, became the first Scot with three career games with at least 10 assists and the first with back-to-back games with at least 10.
Billings is just the fifth Scot to earn a spot on D3hoops.com's Team of the Week, and the first since alumnus Dan Fanelly in 2017.
Wooster (10-4, 6-1 North Coast Athletic Conference) is back in action at Denison University (6-6, 5-1 NCAC) at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, January 19.
