Alumnus Minton Honored by Small College Basketball
Minton this year’s recipient of Lifetime Achievement Award
Reggie Minton, a 1963 College of Wooster alumnus who went on to have a distinguished career as a lead executive for the National Association of Basketball Coaches, is this year's recipient of Small College Basketball's Lifetime Achievement Award. The organization made the announcement on Thursday afternoon.
Minton's biggest contributions to the game came during his near-20-year tenure with the NABC. Minton's work focused on issues that impacted college basketball and its coaches, legislative actions, and other matters pertaining to the NCAA. He was the NABC's liaison in its partnership with the American Cancer Society's Coaches vs. Cancer program, which has raised over $100 million since its inception. Minton actively worked with USA Basketball, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Board of Trustees, and the NIT selection committee. He served a term as chair of the NCAA rules committee and was a regular consultant to the NCAA Men's Basketball Issues Committee.
Minton was previously honored by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, which selected him as its 2022 John W. Bunn Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. That honor is the hall of fame's top honor outside of induction.
Prior to joining the NABC, Minton honorably served more than 20 years in the United States Air Force. He was an alternate for the 1964 U.S. Olympic men's basketball team. After concluding his military service, Minton turned to coaching, where he was the head coach at Dartmouth College (1983-84) and the United States Air Force Academy (1984-00).
At Wooster, the physical education alumnus became the storied program's fourth 1,000-point scorer, finishing his career with 1,002 points. He led the Fighting Scots in scoring with 11.9 points per night during the 1961-62 season.
