Lynch Ties for 21st, Scots Finish Sixth at Barclay Invite
The College of Wooster golf team finished in the middle of the
pack at this weekend’s (April 5-6) annual Ted Barclay
Invitational, hosted by Denison University at the Granville Golf
Course, as the Scots put together rounds of 317 and 306 for a 623
total and sixth-place finish overall in the field of 10.
Otterbein College fired a tournament-best round of 294 during
Saturday’s action, and followed it up with a 300 on day two
(594), taking home the team championship. The Cardinals were
followed by Ohio Athletic Conference foe Mount Union College (598)
in second, host Denison (602) in third and Olivet College (606)
wound up fourth.
Individually, Ohio Wesleyan’s Adam Claytor fired back-to-back
72s, good for a total of 144 and medalist honors, while Eric Ross
of Olivet finished in second with rounds of 77 and a tournament-low
69 on Sunday, good for 146 and second.
Patrick Lynch paced the Fighting Scots, as he covered the par-71,
6,559-yard course in an 11-over 153 (78-75), putting him in a tie
for 21st-place individually along with two other golfers.
Teammate Jason Greenwald was nearly in the 70s both days (81-76),
tallying a total of 157 in all, good for a tie for 32nd.
Also scoring each day for Wooster was Erik Shoger who tied for 36th
(79-79), while Jim Ipema finished tied for 45th (79-81) in the
standings. Rounding out the lineup was Tim Sullivan, who carded 87
on day one, and rebounded with a five-over 76 on the final day,
tying for 53rd (170).
The Scots travel to Delaware, Ohio, next weekend (April 12-13) to
take part in the Ohio Wesleyan Strimer/Lamkin Invitational held at
Oakhaven Golf Club.
