Scots Wind Up Fourth in Baldwin-Wallace Invite
After finishing third in its initial event of the 2007-08
season, The College of Wooster golf team ran into some tough
competition this weekend (Sept. 21-22), ending up in fourth-place
amongst six teams from Ohio and one from Pennsylvania at the
Baldwin-Wallace Invitational. The two-day event was played Friday
at the par-72 Pine Hills Golf Club in Hinckley, Ohio and Saturday
at the par-71 Shale Creek Golf Club in Medina, Ohio.
Allegheny College totaled up a final score of 590 to win the
invitational. John Carroll University finished in second-place with
a score of 603, ahead of host Baldwin-Wallace College with 613
strokes. Behind Baldwin-Wallace, Wooster (626) leapt over Mount
Union College for fourth place (632). Notre Dame College (Ohio)
placed sixth (671) and Lorain Community College finished seventh
(728).
For the Scots, Patrick Lynch led the way after firing an 80 on
Friday with a 71 Saturday, good for a tie for 10th-place in the
individual standings (151). John Carroll's Paul Schroder fired a
tournament-best score of two-under par 141 in the two-day event to
take home medalist honors.
Four strokes back of Lynch was teammate Jim Ipema, tying for 14th
(79-76), while also scoring both days for Wooster was Sean Glasser,
who shot 78-79 to take home 19th.
Additionally, Tim Sullivan carded rounds of 83 on Friday and 80 on
Saturday for Wooster, finishing in a tie for 27th.
Next up for the Scots is the second 2007 NCAC event, hosted by
Allegheny. The two-day Griffin Motors Classic is set for Saturday
and Sunday, Sept. 29-30 at the Meadville Country Club.
