Wooster Golfers Close Fall Season in 9th at Denison Classic
The College of Wooster golf team closed its four-tournament fall
season with a ninth-place finish at the Denison University Fall
Classic (Oct. 6-7), which featured a highly-competitive field
composed of schools from Ohio playing at the par-71, 6559-yard
Granville Golf Course in Granville, Ohio.
Wooster struggled on day one with just one score in the 70s, as the
Fighting Scots carded a 321 team score. That total put them 14
strokes back of eighth-place. However, a 314 Sunday, in which
Wooster counted three rounds in the 70s, turned into a 635 total,
as nearly every team lowered its scores and Wooster was unable to
gain any ground on the field.
John Carroll University won the event in 585, while the runner-up
was Denison University (586). Individually, Lucas Murray
of Mount Union College picked up medalist honors firing a two-day
total of 70-70 and a two under-par 140.
For the Scots, Patrick Lynch led the way with a 73 and a 76, good
for a tie for 14th-place in the individual standings (149). Seven
strokes back was teammate Sean Glaser, tying for 36th (81-75),
while also scoring both days for Wooster was senior Jim Ipema, who
shot 82-79 to tie for 53rd.
Additionally, Tim Sullivan shot an 86 on Saturday, but contributed
an 84 in the team scoring for the Scots on Sunday and wound up in
66th, while Erik Shoger carded an 85 Saturday and an 88 in his
final round for a 173 and 68th-place.
Playing on an individual basis, senior Jason Greenwald posted
scores of 80 and 75 for a 155 two-day mark, which was good for a
tie for 29th.
