Led By Peters and Glaser, Scots Take 14th at Allegheny’s Event
The College of Wooster’s young golf team gained
experienced with a second fall tournament, played Sunday and
Monday, as the Fighting Scots finished in 14th-place at Allegheny
College’s highly-competitive Guy W. Kuhn Invitational. All 36
holes took place at the par-72, 6,614-yard Country Club of
Meadville in northwestern Pennsylvania.
Wooster turned in similar scores each day of 314 and 317 for a 631
total, while NCAA Div. II school Indiana University of Pennsylvania
won the event with a 575, edging Allegheny and Ohio Wesleyan
University, which were ranked ninth and 24th, respectively, in the
NCAA Div. III preseason coaches’ poll. They tied for
second-place at 586.
Three in the Scots’ lineup – freshman Michael Peters,
senior Sean Glaser, and sophomore Kevin Truitt – shot in the
70s on Sunday, with Peters and Glaser both into the clubhouse with
a 76 and Truitt a 79. Peters and Glaser also came in under 80
during Monday’s 18, as they wound up tied for 28th (76-75)
and tied for 36th (76-77), respectively.
Freshman Blake Sword was next on the team and tied for 71st overall
after firing an 83 and an 80. Truitt’s second round counted
as well and he came in tied for 74th (79-85), while junior David
Boardman was not far behind with an 83 and an 86 to tie for
84th.
In addition to winning the team championship, I.U.P. was home to
the individual medalist in Gavin Smith, who fired a four-under for
the tourney (71-69).
Wooster will be back in action this weekend at the Oberlin Fall
Invitational. It will be the second of the four-event North Coast
Athletic Conference Golf Championship Series.
