Scots Sitting in Sixth-Place After Second Event of NCAC Golf Championship Series
Through two tournaments of the 2008-09 North Coast Athletic
Conference Golf Championship Series, one of which was this
weekend’s Oberlin College Fall Invitational, The College of
Wooster’s young squad sits in sixth-place with a score of
1285, including a 647 over 36 holes at the Oberlin Country
Club.
Ohio Wesleyan University won the Oberlin Fall Invitational with a
581, extending its lead in the NCAC Championship Series to a
commanding 45 strokes (1160) over Allegheny College (1205). Just
one shot back is Wittenberg University (1206), followed by Denison
University (1228), Wabash College (1254), the Fighting Scots,
Kenyon College (1295), Hiram College (1403), and Oberlin
College.
Individually, freshman Michael Peters led Wooster on both Saturday
and Sunday, firing a 75 and a 78, respectively, on the par-72,
6,880-yard course. His 153 total was good for a tie for 11th-place
overall, while Ohio Wesleyan’s Jeff Nieman took medalist
honors via a two-under 142.
Also for the Scots at Oberlin, freshman Greg Benckart shot his
opening round in the 70s (78) and followed that up with a solid 82
for a 160 score. Blake Sword, yet another freshman starter, scored
both days, entering the clubhouse with an 84 and an 80, while
Wooster’s No. 1 in the lineup, senior Sean Glaser, bounced
back from an opening 91 with an 82 Sunday. Junior Tim
Sullivan’s first round of 88 counted.
Playing as individuals were Scot teammates Kevin Truitt (81-86) and
David Boardman (90-95).
Wooster wraps up its fall schedule this coming weekend with the
DePauw Small College Classic, which will take place at Deer Creek
Golf Club in Clayton, Ind.
