Peters Fires Career-Low 150, Scots Take Ninth at OWU’s Strimer Invitational
Freshman Michael Peters shot a 75 in both the first and second
rounds to finish with a career-low 150 overall (9 over par),
earning him a tie for sixth place at Ohio Wesleyan’s Strimer
Invitational, and leading The College of Wooster golf team to a
ninth-place finish out of 14 teams a the event held on Friday at
the par-70 Glenross Golf Club and on Saturday at the par-71
Oakhaven Golf Club.
Olivet College won the event with a score of 600, edging out host
Ohio Wesleyan University by eight strokes (608). Mount Union
College took third, shooting a 615, while Hope College placed
fourth (618) and Otterbein College was one shot back in fifth
(619). Rounding out the top-10 was Wittenberg University (623),
Denison University (634), Spaulding University (636), Wooster (638)
and Centre College (639).
Also earning top finishes for the Scots was Blake Sword, who shot a
70 in Friday’s opening round before ending Saturday’s
competition with an 82 to score a 152 overall, good for a tie for
13th place. Kevin Truitt placed in a tie for 55th with a combined
score of 164, while Tim Sullivan (172) and Sean Glaser (179) placed
tied for 76th and 83rd, respectively, as their scores counted
towards Wooster’s team total.
There was a tie for individual medalist honors between
Olivet’s Eric Ross (70-72=142) and Mount Union’s Lucas
Murray (69-73=142).
The Scots will hit the road next Saturday and Sunday and compete in
the Wabash Invitational at The Trophy Club in Lebanon, Ind.
