Scots Fifth at First Event of NCAC Championship Series

Behind a career-best effort from sophomore Tim Faerber, The College of Wooster took fifth-place at the North Coast Athletic Conference Fall Invitational, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University at the Delaware Golf Club. The NCAC Fall Invitational marks the first of four events during 2009-10 which will determine the league's final golf standings.

Faerber's career-low 75 Saturday and 80 on Sunday led the way for Wooster's total of 637 strokes and puts the Fighting Scots one spot higher than last year's NCAC finish (sixth). Wittenberg University, which has not won the NCAC championship since 1992, jumped out to the early lead with a 595, followed by Ohio Wesleyan (608), Allegheny College (627), and Wabash College (631), while Wooster was well ahead of Kenyon College (657), Denison University (682), Hiram College (748), and Oberlin College (DNP).

Individually, Faerber tied for 12th (155), while fellow sophomores Blake Sword and Michael Peters were not far behind. Sword overcame an opening day 87 to shoot 75 the second 18 for a 162, and Peters scored team points both days with his 79 and 84 (163). The Scots' lineup also consisted of sophomore Greg Benckart and senior Tim Sullivan, both of whom wound up at 167. Sullivan's weekend was highlighted by a 77 on Saturday, while Benckart was part of the team scoring both rounds at 86 and 81.
