Scots Solidify Fourth-Place in NCAC Golf Championship Series

The College of Wooster used a second-round team score of 304 to finish in fourth-place at this weekend's Wittenberg University Invitational, held at par-72, 6,684-yard Springfield Country Club in Springfield, Ohio, and also solidify its fourth-place standing in the North Coast Athletic Conference Golf Championship Series.

Wooster came into the third of four season-long events to determine the NCAC standings in fourth, 12 strokes ahead of fifth-place Wabash College. While the Fighting Scots weren't able to make up any ground on third-place Allegheny College, they did pull away from the Little Giants as they're now 29 ahead. Wittenberg all but sewed up the nine-team league championship.

Wabash and Wooster both shot 326 over the opening 18 before four Scots brought home rounds in the 70s on Sunday. Tim Sullivan carded a one-over 73 and Michael Peters was narrowly behind his teammate's pace at 74, while Greg Benckart and Blake Sword turned in 78 and 79, respectively.

Sword demonstrated the most consistency, though, as his 76 led Wooster Saturday, and helped him finish in a tie for 13th-place overall with a 155 total. Sullivan also wound up in the top-20, tying for 18th (84-73=157), and Benckart (81-78=159) and Peters (85-74=159) tied each other for 23rd-place.

Also part of the Scots' staring lineup was Tim Faerber, who tied for 35th (85-82=167).

This week, Wooster hosts its annual event, the Nye Intercollegiate, at the Wooster Country Club.
