The College of Wooster men's golf team closed its fall season with a solid sixth-place finish at the 15-team Wittenberg Fall Invitational, which included the No. 10 ranked NCAA Div. III school, another that was No. 20 in the previous set of rankings, and a couple of Div. II programs.

With four individuals posting rounds in the 70s at the par-71, 6834-yard Windy Knoll Golf Club in Springfield, Ohio, Saturday, the Fighting Scots started with a 304 and followed it up with a 317 while enduring cool, wet conditions over the second 18 Sunday. The host for the weekend, No. 10 Wittenberg, won the team title, tallying 593, a single stroke better than Adrian College (594) and three ahead of formerly nationally-ranked Otterbein University (596).

Individually, sophomore John Angelo and junior Blake Sword both represented Wooster in the top-20. Angelo tied for 15th with consistent rounds of 76 and 75 for a nine-over 151 and Sword also entered the clubhouse with 70s each day, recording a 74 and 78 for a tie for 20th-place (152). For Angelo, a newcomer to the Scots' program this fall, it caps a standout debut as he averaged 78.1 over eight rounds, only shy of Sword's 76.6 for low average on the team.

Also at Wittenberg, junior Tim Faerber tied for 46th (76-81=157), senior Tim Golding was part of a 67th-place tie (78-86=164), and freshman Jeremy Burke tied for 74th (84-83=167) while making his initial appearance in the Wooster lineup.

The Scots will officially resume the 2010-11 season during the spring break trip in March.
