The College of Wooster men's golf team competed in Capital University's Purple & White Invitational this weekend, which saw 15 regional schools, including the North Coast Athletic Conference's Hiram College and Kenyon College, do battle during a two-day, 36-hole tournament at Foxfire Golf Club in Lockbourne, Ohio. The Scots finished in 12th-place (691) overall, which was comfortably ahead of both Hiram (703) and Kenyon (737).

The Scots lowest 18 was recorded by recent NCAC Player of the Week Blake Sword, who shot a seven-over par 79 on Friday, which tied him for 11th-best overall. Sword struggled a bit Saturday, posting a 91, and finished with a 170. Just edging him out by one stroke was classmate John Angelo, who shot an 87 and 82 (169) to lead Wooster individually.

Not far behind were Michael Peters (173) and Tim Faerber (179), who each had their best outings Saturday with rounds of 85 and 87, respectively.

Winning the team title for the second year in a row was Malone University (614), while Adrian College came in a distant second (627). Wooster narrowly missed a top-10 finish, and was just five strokes off of eighth-place Shawnee State University (686).

Next weekend, Wooster will compete in the Ted Barclay Invitational at Granville, Ohio.
