The College of Wooster fell 15 strokes shy of a top-three finish in the North Coast Athletic Conference Golf Championship Series, which concluded with this weekend's 54-hole Hiram Invitational at the Fowler's Mill Golf Course in Chesterland, Ohio, where the Fighting Scots settled for fifth-place.

Over the last two weeks (90 holes), Wooster totaled 1,570, narrowly being edged out of third by Denison University (1,555) and Allegheny College (1,560), while Wittenberg University won the title at 1,497 to Ohio Wesleyan University's 1,526. The Scots finished well ahead of the remaining four teams in the conference.

Entering Sunday's final 18 of the Hiram Invitational, Wooster was within six strokes of both Allegheny and Denison in the battle for third, but couldn't leapfrog either. The Scots' low scorer of that last round on the par-71, 6,385-yard portion of the course was a new starter, sophomore local product Andy Young, who rewarded head coach Rich Danch with the lineup change and brought in a 76.

Overall, Wooster's top-two golfers, Michael Peters and Blake Sword, fittingly tied for 13th-place at the Hiram Invitational. Peters started especially strong with a three-over 75, which was the second-lowest of the 45 competitors on the par-72, 7,025-yard part of the course, and he followed with a 77 and 81 for a 233. Sword's 233 was highlighted by a 72 during the middle round, sandwiched around an 81 and 80.

Another pair of Scot teammates tied with each other in 17th-place, as John Angelo and Tim Faerber tallied 236s. After an opening 81, Angelo came back with two rounds in the 70s (78-77), and similarly, Faerber carded an 80 and back-to-back 78s. Young tied for 26th-place (243).

The All-NCAC Team will be announced on Monday.
