In its final tune-up prior to the first of two North Coast Athletic Conference Championships events, The College of Wooster men's golf team finished runner-up at its own Nye Intercollegiate, shooting a 309 during the 18-hole event, which took place at the par-72, 6,545-yard Wooster Country Club on Tuesday.

While NCAA Div. II Malone University took the team trophy (303), the Fighting Scots will take significant momentum into the NCAC's, as the 309 marked their lowest single-round score of the spring. Rounding out the six-team field were Baldwin-Wallace College (323), John Carroll University (324), Muskingum University (341), and Hiram College (346).

Individually, three Wooster players carded 70s, led by Michael Peters, who tied for first-place with three others with a 75. The senior standout went out in 36, including birdies on the first and sixth holes, and came back in 39 while adding three more birdies (No. 11, No. 13, No. 16).

Peters went on to a four-man playoff, along with John Carroll's Alex DiPalma, and Jon Clark and Nate Tarter, both of Malone. DiPalma emerged as the medalist after four holes.

Another Scot senior, Tim Faerber, fired his low round of the season, scoring a 76 to tie for fifth among the field of 35 golfers, and junior teammate John Angelo was one stroke back in 77, which put him in a tie for seventh-place.

Wooster's other scorer was senior Blake Sword, who turned in an 81 and tied for 12th, while rounding out the starting lineup was junior Andrew Young, as the Wooster native hit 88 on his home course.

Three Scots competed as individuals, and sophomore Andrew Campbell may have earned himself a shot at the lineup for the NCAC's as he put together an 83.

The first 36 holes of the NCAC Championships will take place at The Country Club of Meadville in northwestern Pennsylvania on Saturday and Sunday.
