Three Scots Among Top-10 at JCU Poppa Flowers Invite
Angelo, Carano, Milligan all fire 75s during season debut
Three College of Wooster golfers shot 75 while recording top-10 individual finishes at the single-day, season-opening John Carroll University Poppa Flowers Invitational, held at Shaker Heights Country Club in Shaker Hts., Ohio, on Monday.
Wooster's "A" group scored a 307 at the 18-hole event to tie for third-place out of 11 teams. The young Fighting Scots, featuring a freshman and a sophomore among their top-five, finished 10 strokes back of champion John Carroll (297), just three behind runner-up Otterbein University (304), and were well in front of the rest of the field.
Senior John Angelo, Wooster's most experienced player coming into the 2012-13 season, carded a 75, as did freshmen Marcus Carano and Calvin Milligan during their collegiate debuts. Carano was in the starting lineup, while Milligan made a strong impression for Wooster's "B" team. They were all part of a tie for eighth-place among the 66 competitors.
Also shooting in the 70s for the Scots were sophomore T.J. Selby, who tied for 21st individually via a 78, and senior Andy Young, one shot back (79) in a 24th-place tie. The other starter with the "A" team was junior Jeremy Burke, who tied for 50th (87).
This Saturday and Sunday, Wooster will be at the Denison University Fall Classic.
