Foltz The Low Man for Scots on Saturday
Junior was at 1-under-par after five holes
Junior Ben Foltz carded a five-over-par 76 to lead The College of Wooster men's golf team at Denison University's tri-match, which was held at the par-71, 6486-yard Denison Golf Club on Saturday afternoon.
Foltz's day started with three consecutive pars before he moved to 1-under-par with a birdie on No. 4. The computer science major made the turn at 1-over-par and pared his final four holes of the day.
First-year Tyler Hilbert was next at 78, and the Fighting Scots' rookie tallied 12 pars on the day, including seven straight spanning holes seven through 13. Senior David Roney and first-year Jacob Ullom rounded out the team scorers on the day with 82s. Roney carded a team-leading three birdies, two of which came on the front-nine, while Ullom capped his round with a birdie on No. 18.
First-year Connor Mitchell rounded out the lineup, and he fired an 83. Mitchell was one of two Scots in the lineup to birdie hole six.
First-years David Dennis and Jack Donahue led those playing on the "B" unit and as individuals with scores of 80 and 82, respectively.
Host Denison led the field at 290, with the Big Red's Ben Scherman mastering his home course with a 4-under-par 67. Wittenberg University was next at 309, with Wooster rounding out the field at 318.
Next, Wooster hosts Hiram College on April 3 at Wooster Country Club.
