Roney the Low Scot at Windmill Lakes
Wooster and Allegheny set to square off again on Sunday at Windmill Lakes
The College of Wooster men's golf team dropped its opening dual of the weekend, as Allegheny College topped the Fighting Scots 304-325 on Saturday at the par-70, 6,503-yard Windmill Lakes Golf Club in Ravenna, Ohio.
Senior David Roney's 78 marked the top score on the day for Wooster. Roney had a co-team-leading two birdies, with those coming on the par-4, 397-yard sixth hole and the par-4, 422-yard 15th hole. Roney placed fourth.
Junior Ben Foltz was the other Scot in the top-five. He carded an 80 on the day and had a team-high 10 pars. Foltz carded a four-hole stretch of pars on the front-nine and added pars on Nos. 13-16.
First-year Jacob Ullom fired an 82. His round was headlined by a birdie at the par-4, 353-yard 13th hole, and he added pars on the final five holes on the front-nine. First-years Tyler Hilbert and David Dennis rounded out the lineup with 85s. Hilbert had a late charge in his round with birdies at the par-5, 515-yard No. 16 and the par-4, 395-yard No. 18.
First-year Connor Mitchell led a trio of Scots playing as individuals with a collegiate-low 82. Mitchell played the back-nine at even-par and had a par on all nine holes.
Allegheny's Matthew Del Rosso was the medalist with a 1-over-par 71. He led the field with four birdies.
Wooster and Allegheny are set to compete in a second dual at Windmill Lakes on Sunday.
