Wooster Bounces Back To Beat Allegheny Behind Season-Low 308
All four scorers shoot in the 70s for the Scots
The College of Wooster men's golf team authored a new script, with the Fighting Scots bouncing back to top Allegheny College 308-315 on Sunday afternoon at the par-70, 6,503-yard Windmill Lakes Golf Club in Ravenna, Ohio. Wooster's 308 marked a new season-low for the Scots.
All four scorers shot in the 70s for Wooster, a first for the program since the second round of the 2019 Wabash College Fall Golf Classic. Senior David Roney and first-year Jacob Ullom tied for second-place with 75s, with Ullom's round marking a new collegiate-best. Roney played Sunday's back-nine at 1-over-par, and he birdied the par-5, 515-yard 16th hole and the par-4, 395-yard 18th hole. Ullom carded a pair of birdies in the round as well, with his coming on the par-5, 544-yard fourth hole and the par-3, 163-yard eighth hole. Ullom made the turn on Sunday at 1-over-par and led the field in par-3 scoring, playing those four holes at even-par.
Junior Ben Foltz and first-year Tyler Hilbert tied for fifth-place with 79s. The duo joined Roney with at least 10 holes at par or better on the day, as each carded 10 pars. Hilbert added a birdie, with that coming on No. 4.
First-year David Dennis rounded out the lineup with an 85, while first-year Eddie Papp led a trio of Scots playing as individuals with an 82. Papp carded nine pars on the day, with five of them coming over the final eight holes.
Of note, Wooster's four scorers were a combined 3-under-par on par-5 holes on Sunday, with Hilbert, Roney, and Ullom all finishing in a tie for top honors in the field on par-5 scoring at 4.5 strokes per hole.
Allegheny's Shane Kelley was the medalist with a 4-over-par 74.
Next, Wooster's set to take on Kenyon College on Saturday, April 17 at Denison University Golf Club in Granville, Ohio.
