Scots Lower Season-Best Team Round Against Lords
Wooster shoots 307
Another season-low team round was in store for The College of Wooster men's golf team on Saturday afternoon, but Kenyon College went even lower to top the Fighting Scots 300-307 in a dual match held at the par-71, 6,486-yard Denison University Golf Club in Granville, Ohio. Wooster's 307 was one stroke lower than the 308 the Scots shot at Sunday's second dual match against Allegheny College at Windmill Lakes Golf Club in Ravenna, Ohio.
Junior Ben Foltz placed third with a season-low 75 to lead the way for the Scots. Foltz pared the first four holes on each nine, and he birdied the par-4, 440-yard 15th hole.
Senior David Roney and first-year Jacob Ullom were next at 77, and the duo tied for fourth-place. Roney logged four circles on his card, including three on the front-nine, with birdies at No. 2, No. 4, and No. 6. He made the turn at even-par and logged his final birdie of the day on No. 18, a par-4, 369-yard hole. Ullom scored birdies on holes nine and 13 and he pared 10 other holes on the day.
First-year Tyler Hilbert's 78 comprised the final total towards the team score. Hilbert was 1-over-par at the turn, and birdies on both par-3 holes on the front-nine were a big reason why. First-year Eddie Papp's 85 rounded out the lineup. Three Scots played as individuals with first-years David Dennis and Connor Mitchell having the low rounds among that group with 81s.
Kenyon's Lawrence Courtney was the medalist with a 1-over-par 72, with teammate Nick Lust taking second at 73.
On Sunday, Kenyon makes the return trip to Wooster, as the Scots host the Lords at Wooster Country Club starting at 12:30 p.m.
