Wooster Wraps Up Regular Season Against Kenyon
NCAC Championships are up next
First-year Tyler Hilbert stood out for The College of Wooster men's golf team on Sunday, as the Fighting Scots logged their final competitive round prior to the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships. Kenyon College bested Wooster, 310-335, on a rainy and chilly afternoon at the par-72, 6,545-yard Wooster Country Club.
Hilbert's 78 was the third-lowest score in the field, and he made the Sunday turn at even-par. Hilbert opened with four pars before a bogey on the par-4, 441-yard fifth hole. Hilbert bounced right back with a birdie on the par-4, 405-yard sixth hole and carded pars over the final three holes on the front-nine. Hilbert logged 12 holes at par or better on the day.
Senior David Roney rounded out the field's top-five after an 81. Roney was one of four competitors to have at least 10 pars on the day, and six of his came on the front-nine. Junior Ben Foltz, who was playing as the Scots' anchor in the lineup, was next at 87, with first-year Connor Mitchell rounding out the team score at 89. First-year Jacob Ullom signed for a 92 to round out the lineup, and first-year John Varley led the individual entrants with an 88.
Kenyon's Lawrence Courtney's 72 claimed medalist honors.
Next, Wooster's at Denison University Golf Club for the opening event of the 2021 NCAC Championships. The 18-hole event is slated for Saturday, April 24.
