Scots Third After First Day of Gatorade Collegiate

Hilbert LAWRENCE -- The College of Wooster men's golf team sits third of nine teams after the first day of the Gatorade Collegiate, hosted by the Scots at the Zoar Village Golf Course in Lawrence, Ohio.

Collectively, Wooster shot a 293. They are two strokes behind second and 10 behind first.

Capital University had the lowest team score of the day at 283. Westminster College sits second at 291.

In team scoring, Wooster had two golfers within the top ten individually. David Dennis led the team with a 72, which tied him for sixth overall. Krishang Nayak sits a stroke behind at 73 and tied for eighth.

Jacob Ullom and Tyler Hilbert each shot a 74 to tie for 13th on the day and to round out the Scots' scoring. Ben Foltz shot a 76 to tie for 23rd individually.

Three Crusaders - Andrew Simpson, Shane Murphy and Colin Frimel – all had 70's for low scores of the day.

The only other golfer to tie those three atop the leaderboard was Wooster's own Noah Jackman, who was playing individually. Jackman led the team and tied for the most birdies on the day with four.

Wooster also claimed the only eagle on the day as Hilbert accomplished the feat on the par-5, hole 14. Elsewhere, Dennis had 14 pars, while Nayak and Ullom added three birdies of their own.

Also of note, Sam Norris joined Hilbert and Ullom in shooting a 74. 

Wooster returns to Zoar on Sunday for the final round of the collegiate.
