Down 10, Wooster Runs Down John Carroll for Third Straight Tournament Crown

Krish Nayak, Wooster Golf ALLIANCE, Ohio – The College of Wooster men's golf team roared back with a 13-stroke improvement in round two of the University of Mount Union Fall Invitational, which flipped a 10-stroke deficit into a four-stroke victory on Sunday at Tannenhauf Golf Club. Wooster remains perfect with its third tournament win in as many events this fall. That marks the most tournament wins since the 1997-98 team had four.

Wooster's 294 on Sunday tied for the team's second-lowest round of the season, and it is the third time the Fighting Scots have been below 295 as a unit. All four Wooster scorers checked in at 74 or better on Sunday, with first-year Andrew Carey's 72 leading the way. Senior Tyler Hilbert, junior Krish Nayak, and junior Jacob Ullom all shot 74 over the final 18 holes, while sophomore Gabe Guthrie had a fine showing as well with a 76.

Nayak was in the hunt for medalist honors, and finished the tournament tied for the lead, but lost the tiebreaker due to having a higher second-round score. The junior's 73 and 74 added up to 147, and all four of his nine-hole stretches at Tannenhauf came in at 37 or better. Nayak logged his sixth-career top-five finish.

Hilbert was in the top-10 for the third straight tournament. His 151 was the ninth-place score. Hilbert opened with a 77 and closed with a 74. The senior played Sunday's back nine at even par.

Carey and Ullom tied for 11th-place with 152s. They were at the forefront of Sunday's charge with a combined 12-stroke bounce back. Carey turned at 1-under-par on Sunday, while Ullom played Tannenhauf's front nine at even par.

Guthrie's 155 was the 22nd-place score in the field. The sophomore started the event with a 79. He came in at 1-over-par on Sunday's back nine.

First-year Jake Cammarata led Wooster's B team with a 148, which marked the third-place score in the field. Cammarata's 1-under-par 71 on Sunday was Wooster's lowest round of the tournament.

John Carroll University and Malone University tied for runner-up at 305.

Additional details about individual rounds were not available at posting time due to two teams in the field not having lineups entered in Spikemark, the official provider of NCAA golf score reporting, statistics, and ranking services. Host Mount Union is not able to enter the rounds into Spikemark until each team enters their own lineup in Spikemark's back end.

Wooster will search for its fourth straight tournament title at John Carroll's one-day John DiCillo Invitational, which takes place on Monday, October 9.
