Wooster Continues Fall Season at Wittenberg Fall Classic

Mark Towns, Wooster Golf SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The College of Wooster men's golf team improved by 10 strokes on Monday, but could not make up any ground on the competitive leaderboard at the Wittenberg University Fall Classic, which was held at the par-72, 6,765-yard Springfield Country Club. Wooster finished in 10th-place of 12 counting teams at 626.

Junior Krish Nayak led Wooster, tying for 24th-place at 154. Nayak shot 3-over-par in round one, which carried over to Monday due to darkness. He was even par on the back nine, rolling in birdies on the par-4, 349-yard 14th hole and the par-5, 591-yard 17th hole. Nayak had pars on holes 11 through 13 and in the holes sandwiched between the circles on the card. Nayak again played well on the back nine on Monday, with seven pars and two bogeys. He had two birdies at the turn.

Sophomore Gabe Guthrie's 156 was tied for 35th-place. Guthrie's 76 on Monday marked Wooster's second-lowest round of the tournament. Guthrie played the final six holes of the tournament at 1-under-par.

Sophomore Mark Towns' 157 was tied for 39th-place. He had the low round for the Scots, shooting a 75 on Monday. That was spearheaded by an even par front nine, with birdies on the par-5, 528-yard sixth hole and the par-5, 513-yard ninth hole. In fact, long-yardage holes was Towns' strong suit on Monday, evidenced by a 3-under-par score on the four par-5 holes at Springfield Country Club.

Senior Tyler Hilbert tied for 47th-place at 159. Hilbert was one of four scores in the 70s for Wooster on Monday. He was 1-under-par at the turn and was at 1-under-par following a birdie on hole six. He played the par-5 holes at 2-under-par on Monday and played 12 holes at par or better. On Sunday, Hilbert turned at 3-over-par with five holes at par or better on the back nine, including a birdie in the par-4, 401-yard 10th hole, which was Wooster's opening hole.
