Senior Salute: David Dennis

David Dennis Q&A Throughout the spring semester, we are honoring our senior student-athletes with a "Senior Salute" series. Today's featured senior is David Dennis, a business economics major from Grove City, Pennsylvania. Dennis is a member of the men's golf team.

Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I loved the campus, the available academic opportunities, and the ability to continue to play my sport.

Q: What does being a Fighting Scot student-athlete mean to you?
A: It means being able to compete alongside your friends and teammates daily and continuously striving for improvement.

Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: My favorite memories at the College come from times spent with my friends in class, in our rooms, and at practices. Throughout all of these, I had a lot of fun and made some great memories.

Q: What is the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: Meeting people who have like-minded goals of improvement as yourself, even outside of your sport.

Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I was involved with a service house program for two years where we volunteer at Edgewood Middle School. I am also in Model UN.

Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: My Independent Study advisor Dr. Philip Mellizo has had the greatest impact on me as a student, because I had him for multiple classes and I.S. Though his classes were extremely challenging, I learned if you continue to work hard your effort will speak for itself. He has been able to push me in a way that encourages me to reach my full potential as a student.

Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people and resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: Coach Rich Danch has impacted my Wooster experience in a positive way, as he gave me the opportunity to come here and continue to work on my game at the collegiate level. Through travelling to tournaments and team trips, he has provided me with the experience of meeting many new people and going to new and exciting places, which would not have been possible without his facilitation in the planning of such events.

Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: I am looking at the relationship between remote work and traditional in-office work environments to determine if a productivity difference is present. I am using an employee's intrinsic motivation level to establish the magnitude of any significant difference.

Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: I was able to have a successful summer internship experience after my junior year at Wabtec Corporation in Pittsburgh where I worked with the corporate accounting team to help fulfill quarterly U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission reporting requirements.

Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what advice would you give your first-year self?
A: Try as many things as you can and do not let the little things stress you out too much because it is not worth it. Continue to work hard, be patient with others, and surround yourself with those who you want to be like.
