Scots Prep For NCAC Championships at Denison

Gabe Guthrie, Wooster Golf GRANVILLE, Ohio – The College of Wooster men's golf team placed fourth in its final tune-up for the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships, with the Fighting Scots shooting a 307 on Sunday at the par-71, 6,559-yard Denison Golf Club.

Wooster's 307 at Denison University's Spring Shootout marked the team's second-best round of the spring. Sophomore Gabe Guthrie led the way to that score, shooting a 4-over-par 75, which was a top-10 total on the day. Guthrie started 1-under-par with a birdie on the par-4, 334-yard opening hole and rolled in birdie two of the day on the par-5, 504-yard 12th hole. Guthrie played Denison's back nine at 1-over-par and was 2-over-par over the last 14 holes of the single-day tournament.

First-year Andrew Carey and senior Tyler Hilbert tied for 18th-place at 76. Carey drained an eagle on the par-5, 501-yard sixth hole and played the par-5 holes at 2-under-par for the day. Carey played 12 holes at par or better and was 2-over-par on the back nine. Hilbert's round started with three straight pars, and the senior was back to even par after rolling in a birdie on No. 6. That birdie came in the midst of a nine-hole stretch of pars or better for Hilbert.

Junior Krish Nayak was next, with the 80 ranking in a tie for 37th-place. Nayak's birdie on No. 6 gave the Scots a 4-under-par score for the hole as a team. Nayak turned at 3-over-par and played the final five holes on Denison's front nine at even par.

Senior David Dennis' 81 placed him in a tie for 40th-place. The senior found consistency early in the round with five straight pars spanning holes two through six and turned at 4-over-par.

Wooster's "B" team's 312 was led by first-year Jake Cammarata's 77. Cammarata played 12 holes at par or better and rolled in a birdie on the par-4, 330-yard 16th hole.

Wittenberg University dominated the field, shooting 2-under-par as a team. The Tigers' JF Aber was the medalist with a 5-under-par 66.

Next, Wooster plays in the NCAC Championships, held May 3-5 at Westfield Country Club's North Course.
