Carey Repeats as NCAC Athlete of the Week
Sophomore tied program's low 36-hole record since 1990
The College of Wooster's Andrew Carey scored another North Coast Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week honor following one of the most dominant showings in recent program history.
Carey was the medalist at last week's Westfield Insurance Companies Invitational after shooting an even-par 140 for the 36-hole event. Carey's score tied for the lowest in program history since 1990, the oldest year complete results are available for. It marked a six-stroke betterment for his lowest 36-hole collegiate score. Carey made five birdies on Westfield's North Course's back nine on Friday for a 4-under-par stretch. Three of the birdies came on the daunting par-5 holes, which averaged 578 yards in length. The dynamic play carried over to Saturday, when Carey went out and shot 1-under-par on the front nine.
Carey led Wooster to a 574, the winning score by 49 strokes. Wooster posted a 282 on Saturday, which is the program's second-lowest round since 1975.
Wooster returns to action at the NCAA Div. III Region 5 Showcase, which takes place September 21-22 at Manakiki Golf Course.
