Our "Senior Salute" series continues with Krish Nayak, an economics major from Bengaluru, India. Nayak is a member of the men's golf team.
Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I chose to attend Wooster because it offered the perfect balance between a high-quality liberal arts education and the opportunity to continue competing in the sport I love.
Q: What does being a Fighting Scot student-athlete mean to you?
A: Being a Fighting Scot student-athlete means striving for excellence both on the course and in the classroom. This role challenges me to give my best, not only as an athlete, but as a leader and a learner within the Wooster community
Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: Some of my favorite memories include participating in the Culture Show, filling Kauke Arch with snow, and going on spring break with my teammates.
Q: What is the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: The best part about being a student-athlete at Wooster is the incredible sense of community and support that comes from balancing academics with athletics. Being part of a team that shares the same dedication and drive creates a unique bond with fellow athletes. The friendships I have built and the life lessons I have gained make the experience as a Fighting Scot truly rewarding and unforgettable.
Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: Dr. Brooke Krause and Dr. Amyaz Moledina have had the greatest impact on me during my time at Wooster. Their classes are challenging but rewarding. Their classes push me to perform at my best and truly test my capabilities. Both professors have a unique way of motivating students to rise to the occasion, and their high expectations have helped me realize my own potential.
Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people and resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: APEX (Wooster's center for advising, planning, and experiential learning) played a crucial role in my success during my summer internship with Sherwin Williams. The guidance and resources they provided helped me prepare for the professional environment and equipped me with essential skills for my role. From resume reviews to career advising sessions, APEX ensured I was ready to make the most of the experience
Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: My Independent Study focuses on understanding the performance dynamics of family firms compared to non-family firms. I am exploring how different levels of family involvement, especially in management and decision-making roles, impact firm performance, and I am drawing from my personal experience growing up in a family business.
Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: One of the coolest experiences I have had as a student at Wooster was breaking the program record for the lowest 36-hole score since at least 1990 at Zoar Golf Course in 2022. It was an incredible feeling to see my hard work pay off in such a significant way, knowing I was able to contribute something meaningful to the golf program's history.
Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what advice would you give your first-year self?
A: I would remind myself that hard work truly pays off. Whether in a tough class or on the golf course, the effort you put in shapes your confidence and abilities in ways you cannot imagine. Lastly, I would say to build connections with professors and peers early on. Their support and encouragement will be invaluable throughout your journey at Wooster.
