Fighting Scots Cruise Past Britons 19-3

WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster was simply too much for Albion College, a first-year varsity program, as the Fighting Scots sprinted out to an 11-1 lead after one quarter and eventually posted a 19-3 victory in men's lacrosse action Friday night at Andrew Field at John P. Papp Stadium.

Wooster (7-4) set the tone by scoring just seven seconds into the game – one second short of the NCAA Div. III record – when Matt Pullara won the opening face-off, sprinted into the offensive zone, and fed Dan MacVarish for the quick goal. The Scots added another about a minute later and five total within the opening 5:23.

The second time Albion (2-6) gained possession of the ball, it was able to convert a transition opportunity to pull within 5-1, only to see Wooster rattle off six goals over the final nine minutes of the first period, including Pullara's second and third of the game.

Despite sitting their starters, the Scots proceeded to shutout the Britons 3-0 during the second quarter and 4-0 during the third before securing the final 16-goal margin.

Statistically, Matt Ranck led all players with five points coming on two goals and three assists, while Steve Crozier, Alex Mies, Pullara, and Matt Rubin each had four. Crozier and Pullara each recorded hat tricks, as did Eric Johnson, Rubin tallied two goals and helped out on two others, and Mies' points all came off assists.

Wooster will be right back in action on Sunday when it hosts Colorado College (5-1) at noon.
