Coyne Becomes Wooster's First Men's Lacrosse All-American Since 1991

Pat Coyne Senior midfielder Pat Coyne received two prestigious honors, as The College of Wooster men's lacrosse standout was selected by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association as an honorable mention on its All-America Team Tuesday, and he'll be a participant in the 2010 North-South All-Star Game.

Coyne is the first Wooster men's lacrosse player to be named an All-American since "W" Association Hall of Famer Steve Davidow was named an honorable mention in 1991. He is also the first in recent memory to represent the Scots in the North-South Game, where he will compete alongside 29 other elite NCAA Div. III athletes as a member of the North Team.

Facing a challenging schedule that included a couple of top-10 opponents, Coyne showed his ability to hang with the best players in the country this season, highlighted by a six-point (2 goals, 4 assists) outing against perennial powerhouse Salisbury University. In a highly anticipated game at home under the lights against then-No. 6 ranked DenisonDenison University, Coyne scored four goals and passed out an assist to help lead the Scots to a 12-11 win.

On the season, the senior scored a career-high 26 goals and added 15 assists, totaling Wooster's second-highest point total (41). He took advantage of goal-scoring opportunities by converting three scores during man-up situations, and another three game-winning shots, with the latter leading the North Coast Athletic Conference. Just last week, he was made a first-team selection on the all-NCAC squad for the second-consecutive season.

The 2010 North-South All-Star Game, which features 60 of the nation's top players at the Div. III level, will take place on Friday, May 28, at Goucher College in Towson, Md.
