The College of Wooster men's lacrosse team hung around with University of Mary Washington late into the second quarter, but the Scots were outscored 8-2 in the second half, and eventually dropped their first road game of the season 14-4 Sunday at Fredericksburg, Va.

The Eagles (4-3) got on the scoreboard first just 1:06 into the action, but both defenses locked in and didn't allow another goal during the remainder of the first quarter. The action picked up in the second, when Matt Pullara responded to a Mary Washington goal with an unassisted score of his own that pulled Wooster back within one (2-1). Following another score by the Eagles, Pullara again found the back of the net to make it 3-2 with just 5:30 remaining until halftime.

Wooster's (1-1) defense broke down in the closing moments of the half, allowing three goals during the final 3:38, and the Scots went into the break with a 6-2 deficit.

After another goal by Mary Washington to open the third quarter, Wooster's Matt Rubin beat the 'keeper on a feed from Eric Johnson, but again the Eagles responded, this time with a quick three-goal run that pushed their cushion to 10-3. Joe Suliman added a goal late in the third quarter, but the Scots were held scoreless for the remainder of the game.

Jake Kubasta (13 saves) played about two-thirds of the game in goal, and Matt Magoon (4 saves) relieved him later in the setback. The Scots were outshot 41-17 in the contest, with Pullara's five shots and pair of goals pacing the offense.

Wooster will be back in action Wednesday when they visit Swarthmore College (0-4) at 4 p.m.
