The College of Wooster men's lacrosse team dropped a contest with Swarthmore College 9-5 on Wednesday afternoon, despite leading in shot attempts, due in large part to Swarthmore's early 6-0 scoring run which the Scots were unable to come back from.

The Scots (1-2) were stunned in the opening moments of the game, as the Garnets (1-4) found the back of the net twice in the first 30 seconds of the first quarter, leaving Wooster down 2-0. Swarthmore continued to steadily pull away throughout the remainder of the first half, which included four goals from Jonathan Molloy, and built a 6-0 cushion late in the second quarter.

Matt Pullara beat the 'keeper with just six seconds left before halftime, cutting the deficit to 6-1, which sparked a mini-run coming out of the break. Early in the third quarter, Matt Ranck scored a pair of goals to pull Wooster within three (6-3), and then in the fourth quarter, Mike Lloret chipped in the first two goals of his college career within seven seconds of each other, but it was too little too late.

Overall, The Scots outshot Swarthmore 38-33, and trailed by only three (30-27) in ground balls, but were overwhelmed on face offs where they won just 4-of-18 attempts.

Along with the previously mentioned goal scorers, Matt Rubin, Nick Spittle, and Pullara each added an assist as well. Goalkeeper Jake Kubasta made five saves, with three coming in the first quarter of the setback.

Up next, Wooster continues its four-game road swing at Gwynedd-Mercy College (2-4) on Saturday at noon.
