The College of Wooster men's lacrosse team was overwhelmed 12-1 by nationally-ranked Denison University, as the preseason favorite in the North Coast Athletic Conference steadily pulled away from the Fighting Scots in Saturday's tilt at Granville, Ohio.

Denison (5-1, 1-0 NCAC) scored 1:10 into the action and then didn't let up, adding goals at a consistent pace throughout the game, while keeping Wooster (2-5, 0-1 NCAC) off the scoreboard until Matt Ranck broke up the shutout with 35 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.

On the stat sheet, Denison outshot Wooster 53-23, including 17 shots in the third quarter when the Big Red scored four goals and built an insurmountable 9-0 cushion. The Scots trailed 32-25 in ground balls, but did hold a slight edge in face offs (9-of-17), thanks to the combined efforts of Matt Pullara and Pat Orr.

Also noteworthy, goalkeeper Jake Kubasta recorded a career-high 18 saves while fending off Denison's relentless offensive attack.

For Denison, six different players found the back of the net, with Kyle Brown (3 goals, 3 assists) leading the way.

Wooster will look for better results when they visit Adrian College (4-2) next Saturday at 4 p.m.
