Wooster Unable to Keep Up With Adrian’s Scoring Pace
Pullara, Suliman, Rubin net goals in 15-3 setback
The College of Wooster was within 6-3 of Adrian College early in the second quarter, but the host Bulldogs closed the half on a four-goal run and went from there to a 15-3 decision during the schools' non-conference men's lacrosse match-up Saturday in Adrian, Mich.
Wooster (2-6) got on the board first when Joe Suliman netted an unassisted tally, and after Adrian (6-2) ran off four in a row to end the first period up 4-1, Matt Pullara scored a rare man-down goal 36 seconds into the second to pull the Fighting Scots within two. The Bulldogs erased that momentum quickly with back-to-back scores just seven seconds apart, but Wooster stayed close as Matt Rubin fired one in after receiving a pass from Matt Ranck.
That ninth goal of the game came with 12:57 left in the second period. Unfortunately for the Scots, they were held scoreless the rest of the way while Adrian was able to maintain its scoring pace, constructing a 10-3 advantage by halftime, a 13-3 cushion after three quarters, and eventually the 12-goal win.
Defensively for Wooster, Jake Kubasta started in net and made seven first-half saves and Matt Magoon registered four stops during the final 30 minutes.
The Scots will try to snap their four-game skid on Wednesday night when they host Washington & Jefferson College (3-5) at 7 p.m.
