Washington & Jefferson College scored eight unanswered goals over a 15:47 stretch during the first and second periods to pull away from The College of Wooster, dealing the previously unbeaten Scots an 18-11 setback Wednesday evening in a men's lacrosse match-up at Washington, Pa.

Tom Herold scored less than a minute into the action, and Eric Johnson and Jake Bernard added goals shortly after to give Wooster (3-1) an early 3-1 lead. It was at that juncture the Presidents (1-3) went on an 8-0 scoring run to build a 9-3 cushion about midway through the second period.

The Scots answered back with their own mini-run, as Patrick Schlick, Mike Perrino, and Matt Ranck each peppered the 'keeper during a quick 1:48 spurt that pulled them within three scores (9-6), but Washington & Jefferson responded with two more goals to extend its lead to 11-6 at the break.

In the second half, the Presidents were able to keep the Scots at bay, limiting them to just four more goals.

On the stat sheet, Wooster narrowly edged out Washington & Jefferson in groundballs (41-40), with Max Rubin pacing the squad with eight.

Ranck led the Scots offensively with four goals and two assists, while Herold and Schlick added two tallies apiece. Defensive standout Nick Spittle dished out an assist and scooped up five groundballs.

Next, Wooster will look to get back into the win column when they visit Randolph-Macon College Sunday at 2 p.m.
