WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster men's lacrosse team put together its best offensive output in nearly a decade on Wednesday, as it overmatched Thiel College by scoring at least five goals in each quarter of a 23-5 triumph at John P. Papp Stadium.

The 23 scores were the most since the Fighting Scots delivered 25 on April 16, 2003, during a match-up at Washington & Jefferson College.

Wooster (4-4), which improved to 3-1 in home games this spring, started relatively slowly, as it was ahead 5-2 through 21 minutes with Thiel (1-5), a second-year varsity program. Then, midway through the second quarter, the Scots struck three times in just 1:27, starting with Matt Ranck's third goal, assisted by Mike Ewanechko. Pat Henderson played a part in the next two, assisting an Evan Albertson tally, and then scoring his own to put Wooster up 8-2 with 7:00 left in the period.

The Scots tacked on two more before the half as part of a 10-3 advantage at the break, and they picked up the offensive pace during the third quarter with six goals, featuring three in a row by Ranck. He was assisted on each with Dean Marchitelli, Mike Perrino, and Henderson setting up Wooster's finisher.

Despite sitting Ranck and other front-line starters throughout much of the fourth quarter, the Scots tacked on seven more, two by Ewanechko and two by Steve Crozier.

Ranck wound up with a career-high seven goals, marking the junior's fifth game this season with four or more. Also registering hat tricks were Evan Albertson, Ewanechko, and Henderson, and the latter contributed three assists for a six-point outing.

Wooster continues its homestand on Saturday and also opens North Coast Athletic Conference play against No. 9 ranked Denison University (6-0) at 1 p.m.
