WOOSTER, Ohio – Trailing by one goal with less than three minutes remaining in regulation, The College of Wooster scored three times over a 1:05 span to upend St. Vincent College 10-8 in a men's lacrosse match-up Wednesday afternoon at John P. Papp Stadium.

The Bearcats (1-6) took an 8-7 lead with 8:33 to go in the fourth period, and the score remained that way until the Scots (5-5) converted on a man-up opportunity with 2:41 left on the clock. Matt Ranck rolled the crease and dished to Mike Perrino, and the latter fired in the equalizer to knot the score at 8-8.

Wooster won the ensuing face-off, and shortly after, Saint Vincent committed a penalty that awarded the Scots another man-up advantage. This time around, it was Perrino assisting on a Ranck goal, which gave Wooster a 9-8 lead with nearly two minutes still to play.

On the next face-off, Dean Marchitelli fought his way out of a scrum with a groundball, and then sprinted to the offensive end of the field, where the long-stick middie fired in an insurance goal to give Wooster its 10-8 margin.

The first half was a defensive struggle that saw St. Vincent build a narrow 3-0 cushion midway through the second period. The Scots finally got on the scoreboard just 3:48 before the break, when Mike Ewanechko found the back of the net to cut the deficit to 3-1.

Ewanechko's goal triggered a scoring run, as the Scots wound up taking a 5-3 lead early in the third period. After a few lead changes, Wooster made its late run to cap off an exciting second half.

Wooster held an advantage in groundballs (43-36) and face-offs (13-of-21), and was 4-for-6 in man-up situations.

On the stat sheet, Perrino and Ranck each recorded hat tricks and chipped in an assist. Marchitelli had a game-high 10 groundballs, and Nick Spittle was right behind him with eight. Matt Magoon made nine saves in goal.

Next, Wooster will play its second North Coast Athletic Conference game of the season when it visits Ohio Wesleyan University on April 6 at 7 p.m.
